In 2009, Laetitia, a French woman in love with Mexico, left everything behind and moved to Sayulita, a small town on the Pacific coast. There, she fell in love with a traditional fabric that local surfers use as a large beach towel.
Inspired by her many travels throughout Mexico, this textile designer reimagines this large fabric by adding bright, colorful stripes. The designer needed nothing more to conceive an entire range of products, and thus found Las Bayadas.
Las Bayadas is a unique word, inspired by a very French practice... In the language of Molière, the word "Bayadère" refers to a fabric made up of wide, colored stripes. And it was by subverting a very French custom of adding an "o" or an "a" to the end of words to give them a Spanish sound that this unique name "Las Bayadas" was born, a perfect translation of this dual Mexican and French identity!
Collection after collection, as a nod, each product from the Las Bayadas brand is given a traditional Mexican name, often ending in an "o" or an "a": "El Roberto," "La Lucía"...
